A form shaped by craft, regulation - and a bit of rebellion
DIMENSIONS
H: 145mm W:140mm (widest)
Volume: 900 ml
THE STORY
This piece is a ceramic interpretation of an original copper jug from Jura distillery. According to a 90-year-old former customs inspector I once met, its distinctive dents were added deliberately to adjust whisky measures and avoid the time-consuming recalibration of bottling equipment if the volume of the sample tested by customs didn’t hit a specific mark. This lightly illicit element is complemented by a personal dimension: the original jug was given to me by my late father.
PROCESS & MATERIALS
Each jug is slip-cast from a three-part plaster mould taken directly from the original copper vessel. This complex mould captures the jug’s distinctive dents, proportions – and story. After casting, each piece is refined by hand and finished with three brushed coats of bronze lustre. Subtle variations in colour are part of the making process and ensure every piece is unique.
