A sculptural vase inspired by the spiral geometry of Scotland’s historic towers.
DIMENSIONS
H: 240mm W:110mm (widest)
THE STORY
The Helika was a dream design - literally. I woke with its shape in my mind and started sketching. Eventually I realised it was inspired by a walk up the Wallace Monument at Stirling. Its 246 steps are formed in a spiral 'helical' shape, in common with many Scottish towers. That shape led to my Helika: an ode to geometry, architecture, and Scottish history.
PROCESS & MATERIALS
The Helika begins as a hand-built model combining plaster and acrylic, carefully shaped, bonded, and sanded before mould-making. Each vase is slip-cast, refined by hand, and finished with three brushed coats of bronze lustre. Subtle variations in colour are part of the making process and ensure every piece is unique.
